Lift Every Voice
In celebration of Black History Month, join us for a special concert honoring the contributions of Black composers and musicians. This signature event will feature the internationally acclaimed Soprano Angela Brown, whose powerful vocal artistry will grace the stage. Through this concert, we strive to spread a message of unity and hope, fostering a sense of togetherness and inspiration.
An Extraordinary Life
During this concert, we’ll pay tribute to the extraordinary composer Joseph Bologne, whose remarkable and captivating life is celebrated in a PBS documentary. Bologne emerged from the chains of enslavement in the Caribbean to become a celebrated composer, violinist, friend to French royalty, and acclaimed conductor in the 18th century.
This special concert will feature a captivating arrangement of Bologne's "Overture to L'Amant Anonyme," alongside other chamber works carefully selected by the talented musicians of the Indiana Wind Symphony.
Dancing in the Streets
This spring concert showcases a diverse range of music, from ballet to Broadway. Among the featured pieces is "Three Dance Episodes" by Leonard Bernstein, a captivating composition originally from the Broadway musical On the Town. This three-part suite includes "Dance of the Great Lover," "Pas de Deux," and "Times Square Ballet."
The concert will also feature a guest soloist, the first Indiana Wind Symphony Concerto Competition winner (yet to be announced!), adding to the excitement of the evening.
Young Artists Concerto Competition
Experience the thrill of competition and the joy of music with the Indiana Wind Symphony’s Young Artists Concerto Competition. This event is part of the IWS concert, “Dancing in the Streets.”
Talented high school musicians from across Indiana are invited to compete for the opportunity to perform a solo at The Palladium, accompanied by the Indiana Wind Symphony, and to win a $1,000 prize.
Noches Calientes!
Experience an enthralling concert that artfully weaves together classical and contemporary pieces crafted by acclaimed Latin composers and offers diverse musical genres and styles. The concert concludes with Dennis Llinás' captivating composition, "Un Cafecito." This piece is more than just a simple pick-me-up; it's an intense double shot of pure musical espresso that will leave you invigorated.
In addition, the prestigious James B. Calvert Outstanding Music Educator Award will be presented during this concert, recognizing exceptional contributions to music education.

Enjoy the Holly Days
Immerse yourself in the magic of the holiday season with this festive, family-friendly concert, specially designed to bring joy and cheer to audiences of all ages. Our talented musicians will present a delightful concert with festive holiday compositions, from beloved classics to heartwarming contemporary pieces. And for an added touch of magic, Santa will make an appearance!
The Call: A Concert for Veterans
This concert celebrates and honors those who have bravely served in the United States Armed Forces. The featured performer is Gil Hoffer, a retired trumpet player from Indianapolis who spent his career with the prestigious United States Army Band, known as "Pershing's Own."
Gil will showcase his extraordinary talent by performing two remarkable compositions: "Concerto for Trumpet," composed by Alexander Arutunian, and "With Malice Toward None" by the renowned John Williams. These stirring pieces, along with music from the iconic Lincoln film, promise an extraordinary musical experience.
Old Wine in New Bottles
Get ready to experience an enchanting evening of chamber music with the talented musicians of the Indiana Wind Symphony. Listen as they perform Dr. Gordon Jacob's "Old Wine in New Bottles" from 1959 - a folk-inspired chamber piece filled with charm, wit, and beauty - along with other tunes we know you’ll love.
Fanfare for a New Era
Join us to celebrate the season's inaugural concert, led by Artistic Director Jay Gephart. The concert will signal a new era for the Indiana Wind Symphony. Guest tubist Patrick Sheridan will take center stage as a featured performer, adding his exceptional talent to this momentous occasion.
Sharing the Gift of Music
Gather with the IWS for an evening of captivating symphony music at the Franklin Symphonic Council's Summer Concert Series. This special event will occur at the Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, where you can indulge in a delightful musical concert.

Hometown Celebration
Join the Indiana Wind Symphony for Independence Day celebrations at Carmelfest 2024. Finales and Fanfare
Join us for our season finale concert, a night of celebration and musical excellence. We are thrilled to introduce our new music director, Jay Gephart, and commemorate the Symphony's remarkable 27-year journey. This special evening will feature the talented vibraphonist Benjamin Blackketter, performing a vibraphone concerto by Nathan Daughtery. Additionally, the program includes two cherished classics: Suite Number One by Gustav Holst and the fourth movement of Ottorino Resphigi’s “Pines of Rome, Pines of the Appian Way.”
The prestigious James B. Calvert Outstanding Music Educator Award will also be presented during the concert.
Springtime Celebration
Celebrate the arrival of spring with this festive concert, featuring a spirited march from 1924 by John Philip Sousa: “Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company” and “Where Never Lark or Eagle Flew” by James Curno. A highlight of the evening will be the premiere performance of “Vision,” a new composition by Nashville-based composer David Sartor, who will also be conducting his piece.
The concert will feature the talents of visiting composer Mark Wolfram with his piece "Vertical Planes," showcasing the skills of four soloists: Larry Purdue on horn, Brian Hoover on trumpet, Mike Villano on trombone, and Bill Schmidt on tuba. Additionally, works by two other esteemed composers, Norman Dello Joio and James Curnow, will be presented, adding depth and variety to the musical offerings.
We are also honored to welcome guest conductor Jay Gephart, who will lead the ensemble and is set to become our next music director. This concert promises to be a memorable celebration of spring and a showcase of musical mastery.
Eclectic Enchantment
Experience an eclectic and captivating collection of performances at the Studio Theater. This memorable evening will feature Soprano Jessamyn Anderson's performance of Samuel Barber's "Knoxville: Summer of 1915.”
Rhapsody in Blue: The Centennial
One hundred years ago, a concert titled “An Experiment in Modern Music” brought together musical greats such as John Philip Sousa, along with all of the music critics in New York. One work stood out and has since withstood the test of time: “Rhapsody in Blue.”
A century later on February 25, 2024, piano soloist Kelleen Strutz will perform the work at this concert. Other Gershwin favorites will include “Strike Up the Band,” “Swanee,” selections from “Porgy and Bess,” and “Prelude No. 2,” a little-known title but a recognizable melody. Plus, enjoy the premiere of “A Wave Returns to the Ocean” with composer Charles D. Norris in attendance.

Enjoy a shorter, family-friendly holiday concert at the Palladium in the afternoon, featuring a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus to perform ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, as well as a special performance by soprano soloist Jessamyn Anderson, who will sing “Let it Go” from Frozen.

Echoes of Halloween
Continue the Halloween festivities with this concert on November 5 in the Palladium, featuring Aaron McMichael’s “Witch Hunt,” “Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath” from Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz, and other works.
Reimagining Old Favorites
At this intimate concert in the Studio Theater, hear “French Dances Revisited” by Adam Gorb, a work which the IWS helped commission in 2005. Then, enjoy "and the swallow" by Caroline Shaw and other works.
Great Classics and Exciting New Sounds
Celebrate our new season with this concert featuring piano soloist Sarah Loisch playing Camille Saint-Saëns “Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 22” – a new transcription by our own member, Larry Purdue. Plus, experience an exciting new award-winning work, “Flying Jewels,” by James David, which is a brilliant musical description of hummingbirds in flight.
Franklin Symphonic Council
On Wednesday, July 26, at 7 p.m. come on out and enjoy the FREE 2023 summer concert series hosted by Franklin Symphonic Council. Enjoy music from famed film composer John Williams, as well as marches from three prominent Hoosier Composers. Flute soloist Carl Butler will also perform "Adagio" from Carmen, by Bizet. No tickets required.
CarmelFest

Low Brass to the Fore
Witness the world premiere of a new work featuring two long-time Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra low brass artists, including tuba soloist Tony Kniffen, who will play trombonist James Beckel’s new concerto for tuba and concert band. To conclude the evening, celebrate the presentation of the James B. Calvert Outstanding Music Educator Award.
Hollywood Musical Magic
Experience the magic of Hollywood with music from blockbusters such as Titanic, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Gone with the Wind and more. Plus, hear works from lesser-known films such as King’s Row and The Mission in this concert featuring works by composers such as Max Steiner, John Williams, Meredith Willson and Bernard Hermann.
Sound the Harp
Join us for an intimate evening in the Studio Theater at this show featuring harp soloist Melissa Gallant. Then, enjoy the premiere of a new arrangement of a classic opera duet, created by IWS member Dan McGlaun. The concert will also feature music from Maurice Ravel, Benjamin Britten and Stephen Sondheim.
A special feature of this concert will be the premiere performance of David Sartor's Scarab!- it is a work for harp with woodwind trio that honors an extremely large beetle that was discovered in a bassoon teacher's studio!
John Williams Festival
Join us at the John Williams Festival at The Palladium!
Join us for this salute to the greatest of America’s film music composers: John Williams. His heroic, lushly-scored works featuring endless memorable melodies will bring back the wonder from Star Wars, Jaws, the Indiana Jones series, Superman, and so many others.
I'll Be Home for Christmas
Enjoy a festive evening with the Indiana Wind Symphony. Soprano soloist Jessamyn Anderson will perform I’ll Be Home for Christmas, as well as the beloved O Holy Night. Familiar songs from Irving Berlin, The Carpenters and Leroy Anderson will brighten the winter evening.
Santa & Mrs. Claus Visit The Palladium
Get into the holiday spirit with this one-hour concert that’s perfect for the whole family. Enjoy a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and see Princess Elsa (portrayed by soprano soloist Jessamyn Anderson) perform the classic Let it Go from “Frozen.”
Pictures at an Exhibition
Experience one of the most beloved orchestral masterpieces: Pictures at an Exhibition. This rendition has been brilliantly scored for wind ensemble by Paul Lavender for the United States Marine Band. Additionally, enjoy a wonderful new work from Michael Daugherty – a 2019 song cycle based on the poetry of Emily Dickinson and Christina Rosetti, titled Songs from a Silent Land.
Jessamyn Anderson, alumna of Carmel High School and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will join the IWS as a featured soloist.
A Procession, a Festival & a Sinfonia
Enjoy incredible wind chamber music during this intimate show in the Studio Theater. Walter Hartley’s classic "Concerto for 23 Winds," Richard Wagner’s "Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral," and Mozart’s memorable rival Antonio Salieri’s "Music for a Temple of the Night" will be featured, along with other works.
This concert takes place in the Studio Theater.
Concert in Greensburg: FREE
Just us for a FREE concert in downtown Greensburg on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00.
The event honors the 1861 visit to the city by President Abraham Lincoln by train en route to his inauguration.

Two works by Jerry Williams (1951-2001), band director at Greenfield High School in the 1970s and 1980s
A march written by C. Earl Downey, the bandmaster for the Municipal Band of Arlington, IN from 1903 until 1957
A newly discovered manuscript work of Indiana’s most famous band composer, Fred Jewell (1874-1936). The as yet untitled work was written in the early 1930s, and had yet to be sent to a publisher when the Great Depression occurred.
