Just us for a FREE concert in downtown Greensburg on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00.
The event honors the 1861 visit to the city by President Abraham Lincoln by train en route to his inauguration.
We’ll play the following pieces (with local ties to the IWS!):
Two works by Jerry Williams (1951-2001), band director at Greenfield High School in the 1970s and 1980s
A march written by C. Earl Downey, the bandmaster for the Municipal Band of Arlington, IN from 1903 until 1957
A newly discovered manuscript work of Indiana’s most famous band composer, Fred Jewell (1874-1936). The as yet untitled work was written in the early 1930s, and had yet to be sent to a publisher when the Great Depression occurred.
Works by John Philip Sousa, John Williams and Meredith Willson.
